Anyone been watching it lately? I know AJ Styles has the TNA Title, fucking finally! But... could anyone fill me in on other stuff. I've missed a lot. Hadn't watched it since the night Homicide went to W.E. And I loved the homicide heel turn.

it's a giant mess that can barely hold itself together and manages to insult your intelligence even more than the WWE.

There, you're caught up.

As a lifelong fan, I am highly disappointed with the current state of wrestling. For every good decision a promotion makes, it makes at least five bad ones.  My only solace is knowing that guys like CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Christian, Edge and AJ Styles are going to be remembered as World Champions.  (Even though people like Batista, The Great Khali, and Jeff Hardy will be as well, ugh.)

TNA has sucked ever since Ken Shamrock lost the World Championship, so basically from about it's 6th show...
Title: Re: TNA
Post by: V on September 29, 2009, 12:26:43 PM
i definitely wouldn't go so far as to say it sucks as bad as the above.

however... i pretty well agree with Karrin's writer's analysis.

which disappoints me pretty severely, as back in the original first couple years they had the TV deal, i worked on their site.  i remember the fantasticness of Daniels/AJ/Joe.  and they still have, quite likely though debatably, the best roster of any U.S. promotion-- they just push the absolute WRONG people amongst that roster.  AJ with the title is the only exception that i've seen in a long time.  granted i haven't watched regularly in a long time.  it's just, i've seen them job the MCMG to the likes of Steiner so many times that one more round and i might break a screen throwing shit in incoherent anger.

and i'm really not easy to rile in wrestling.  and contrary to what the current management of TNA thinks, that urge is not good heeling.  it's terrible heeling.  the point of heeling is to make you want to tune in to see 'em get their ass kicked, not to utterly lose interest with the promotion.
Title: Re: TNA
Post by: Rex on September 30, 2009, 01:54:46 PM
thanks guys. And I do agree, about TNA doing some dumb shit. MCMG should be holding the tag titles not jobbing to steiner and booker. if ne thing they shuld break up MEM and then have majority of its members fighting in the legend's title division or something.

But oh well, as long as AJ Styles is champion, TNA will be better than WWE. Altho, I watched smackdown merely for CM Punk, smackdown is just as terrible as RAW and ECW.

I've reached the point where I'm not even looking forward to seeing HHH or HBK. It's kind of a shame really. I really only like to see CM Punk, MVP, Christian, Edge, and my all time 2nd fav. canadian after Bret Hart, ok, 3rd I was big on Owen too, but the always colorful CHRIS JERICHO!

Haven't we already discussed Jericho's lack of win and the proportion of this to his gain in weight and loss of tights and hair? I think we did. He's a fat chump now.

And a better wrestler than almost everyone else.  Seriously, ozzy, you need to get over the fallacy of thinking that the more muscularly defined a wrestler, the better he is.  It's a little stupid.

Jericho was better back in the day with the long hair and constantly making fun of Stephanie McMahon and Kurt Angle.

Blargh.

Seriously disagree.  In fact, I prefer the current Jericho.  Why?  Because he's right.  He's horrible, he's evil, and yet, he constantly tells the truth and gets booed for it.  The whole reason he turned heel in the first place a year ago was because he called out Shawn Michaels on lying about an injury.  And he was right, and people still booed him.  Recently, he bitched at edge for having bones made of dried soup and getting injured so often.  again, he's right.  Again, people boo.  Why?  Because wrestling marks are fucking morons and part of the reason that the product is more and more devoid of quality.

Same reason why I like the CM Punk heel turn.  He gets booed for TELLING THE TRUTH about Jeff "I'm a fucktard drug addict." Hardy.  Still, morons boo mindlessly.  I like these characters.  They're almost smakry heels that you have to cheer for if you have five brain cells.

Oh yeah, and they still put on better matches than everyone else, even if they have more than 3 percent body fat.

Better matches maybe...but they boo him because he's fucking boring.  I change the channel when he comes on.  Honestly, yeah, he's a fine wrestler...but being in WWE, you have to have the whole package, decent on-screen character and wrestling skills.  He's got one, but not the other.

He just sucks.

Let's agree to disagree.

CM Punk and Jericho are the best heels WWE has. Best stars they have also. You hate them, and that means they are doing their jobs. The only heels that have ever made me hate them to where I wished the face would just crush their face were Triple H, Y2J, Kurt Angle, and CM Punk. And if they can make me hate them that much I usually like them out of simply having respect for them. CM Punk and Y2J do infact have the entire package. When they are heels you hate their guts, and when they are face you want them to win every match and every championship.

If wrestling marks booed boring people Batista would have been fired years ago.

I'll agree to disagree because I really don't understand why he's so much worse all of a sudden.  Would you prefer he go back to making nothing but dumb boob jokes at Steph's expense?  Idk, I always thought that period of time where everyone loved him so much (2001-2004) was probably his worst.  I think self-parodying heel of 98-2000 and the current villain are more entertaining.  Though, to be fair, they still aren't enough to get me to tune into WWE often enough.

That's because all wrestling is boring once you watch about 3 years of it straight.

Every persona, every gimmick and every match has been done ad nauseam.

Do you even know what someone with 3% body fat looks like? I doubt it. It's a condition that can be held for mere hours, a day at the most. Look it up before you reference it. Triple H , even at his most ripped, is probably no lower than 8 or 9% and that's only because he has to do conditioning rather than mass since his injuries prevent that 2006-type route.

Might not bother me so much if Jericho had always been a fat fuck, but he used to have an admirable physique and now he just looks fuckin' lazy.

My take is that it's not the stars that are so bad, it's "creative"...  It's not a cop out, it's truly why both WWE and TNA are in a LUL...

I disagree that everythings been done before as well, at this point, I just believe Vince isn't pushing his writers in any sort of direction because he doesnt have to with TNA as competition...

TNA creative should be shot execution style, period.  I've witnessed better programs in local gyms and fairgrounds then what they are doing in TNA...  It started out as a few no-namers with one or three named guys to give it credibility, and then someone somewhere hit the pipe and flooded the roster with guys that felt they were working too hard elsewhere...

Next time you watch TNA, ESPECIALLY M.E.M.  Watch the acting/writing...

Sting:  You know Kurt, the thing is, the thing is, Kurt, that you have GOT to understand, Kurt, that it is about integrity...  Integrity, Kurt, is what it is all about...

Kurt:  Waitjustaminute Sting, hold on Stinger, You don't have to tell me about integrity, Sting.  I won an olympic Gold medal with a broken neck, Sting, so ....

It goes on that way with ALL the wrestlers...  Watch it, and see if it annoys you as much as it does me...

As far as WWE goes, it's just going through the motions...  I like punk as face OR heel, and their roster on all shows is solid...  I dont watch the bastardized ECW out of spite, but I've been known to read WWES results...  Neither Jeff nor Matt Hardy should talk, PERIOD, they should just stick to wrestling.  I like Jericho back in his WCW throw a tantrum days, I agree Batista is a douche of EPIC porportions, BUT, when compared with an ABYSS, or a Booker/Steiner, or Beer Money INC, or you can bet your bottom dollar I'll sit through the Batista match...

Here is something I'm going to try in another thread, Starting This week, 4 shows, 4 rosters, I'll give a quick rundown of something Id do with the programs roster to make it more to my liking.  I challenge any of you with spare time to do the same.

Title: Re: TNA

IMHO, WWE has one good roster split between two shows and boosted uo with "talent" than can be described as filler at best. ECW doesn't even count. You can tell the state of WWE when Randy Orton and Cena are two of the biggest stars. That's bad. I mean, you know, I'm biased here to some extent (possibly) but they have a legit claimant to being one of the strongest men to EVER walk this Earth and they job him out like a lil bitch? Mark Henry as a brand has infiitely more potential than Vince has recognised, and that's tragic, especially when you consider the way Big Slow is pushed down out throats.

TNA has a good roster, but as has been remarked, is poorly used. Steiner could still pull off a muscle-monster gimmick, even with his fucked up leg/foot/whatever. Booker T did much better as a face in WCW. Kurt Angle, I'm mixed on because I admire the Hell out of the guy but when your injuries force you to cut nearly 40lbs of muscle mass and mean you can't take the kind of bumps you should be in the wrestling business, you have to be thinking about whether it's time to give it a miss, right? Sting, I never "got". Maybe I'm alone in that, but I always thought his using The Crow thing is lame, and I loved that movie.

Fuck 'em all.

Know what's more fun? Watching old Royal Rumbles from the 90's, and counting how many times Hogan says "brother" and Macho Man/King says "yeah". HILARIOUS!

I fucking hate CM Punk because that 'straight edge' hardcore trend went out of style like... 7 or so years ago, so the whole gimmick is fucking retarded.  it was a trend started by kids who listened to the likes of bane, comeback kid, minor threat... actual hardcore bands, and this motherfucker comes out to i think killswitch engage?  really fucking stupid.

wwe should really look into what they want to portray, and do some actual research.  because in the end cm punk looks like a fucking idiot for having a gimmick that went out of style long before hardcore ever even died.

strange thing to pick to respond to but...

uh, not significantly.  like way, way ago.  but part of it is actually the change in attire, to be honest.  i remember... my brother and i sitting around watching in like... 2002 and on at the latest and every time Jericho came out and did the 'belt around my waist' taunt we MST2Ked it with "look at my lovehandles!!!1!!1!!!!" because he had like spare tire shit bulging over the top of his trunks.

i honestly don't care what my wrestlers look like anymore, though.  i enjoy eddie kingston, ffs.  i have far, far more respect for chris jericho now than i did back then, because i have a better eye for talent than i did back then, and the guy's really got a mind for this business.  but i really would prefer all wrestlers be restricted to full tights or traditional mid-thigh singlets.  the little shorty-shorts are fucking nauseating, i don't care who they're on, i don't want to see slices of this fucker's ass when he goes down for a pin.  i don't want to see man-hip-dent-things when they pick somebody up over their head.  pet peeve for YEARS now.

Love handles aren't such a problem really, especially when the guy still had abs, you know? Full on fucking pie-mucher guts are just disgusting. In general, I agree that "trunks" or whatever they call them should be a thing of the past for a majority of wrestlers. Only a few don't look like complete twats when wearing them. LOL
